Second, while I don't anticipate a full post today, this little rant might get you through the weekend.
Warning, if you value your sanity you might not want to click here.
Comedian Lewis Black has a pretty well known routine in which he talks about a conversation he once overheard, in which the phrase, "If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college." was uttered. Black goes on to explain that phrases like that are the true cause of aneurysms, because people's brains get preoccupied with making some sense, any sense at all, out of seemingly nonsensical and illogical things.
This, is the equivalent of Lewis' horse phrase. A company, dedicated to raising awareness about American over consumption by, wait for it...selling people products. Clothing, water bottles, shoulder bags. Things you don't have now, that they want you to buy, so they can make a profit, and make you feel guilty about over consuming.
What?!
While we are throwing out references to comedians, let's borrow from Jerry Seinfeld: "I'm speechless. I am without speech."
Let's examine the balance sheet here. This company does claim to make their products in sustainable ways, and they do claim to donate a portion of their profits to worthy causes. But their main objective seems to be to raise awareness about over consumption...by SELLING PRODUCTS.
This kind of stupidity is beyond words. How this could ever be respected or thought of in any way as intelligent or mindful consumerism is beyond me.
